JUI-F chief claims PTI prepared to dissolve the KP legislature and resign from assemblies

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), asserted on Saturday that the embattled party had agreed to dissolve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) legislature and step down from assemblies in order to force the government into elections, following the formation of a committee to hold dialogue with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

To have negotiations with the Imran Khan-founded party, the religio-political party formed a committee led by Kamran Murtaza, which includes Maulana Lutfur Rehman, Mufti Fazal Ghafoor, Aslam Ghauri, and Maulana Amjad.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad today, the cleric said that he had received assurances from the previous ruling party that he would step down from the assemblies and dissolve the KP Assembly.

“The JUI-F committee will finalise the future strategy after holding consultations with the PTI.”Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the PTI, denied the JUI-F supremo’s assertions that his party had consented to abstain from assemblies.

“We haven’t had any discussions with Maulana Fazl about resignations or assembly dissolution, nor have we made any decisions in this area,” the PTI leader continued.

During the conversation today, Maulana Fazl also acknowledged that his party had “bitterness” against the PTI despite their relationship becoming more normalized and that they disagreed with other political groups.

The cases against imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan and other politicians were contested by the JUI-F supremo, who was one of the former ruling party’s political adversaries.

In addition to rejecting the idea of a caretaker setup, he demanded that local government (LG) and parliamentary elections be held simultaneously.
