Yvette Cooper convened an emergency COBRA meeting of ministers and police chiefs this morning, after over a week of disruption and riots in cities and towns across the UK.
Since last Tuesday, more than 400 people have been arrested around the country, with courts working extra hours to cope with the large number of people charged in connection with the disturbances.

Last week, 111 people were detained in London in a single night, while authorities apprehended 43 people in Middlesbrough over the weekend, with further arrests occurring elsewhere.

Ms. Cooper told News that people engaged had injured police, targeted mosques, and asylum seekers.

They do not represent our neighborhoods, she continued.

It’s a complete shame, and there needs to be consequences. Individuals involved in the condition must understand that they will face consequences.
