In advance of the September 18, 2024, elections, the Indian government has started a major administrative reorganization in Jammu and Kashmir, which it occupies. More than 250 top officials have been transferred.
This action is being taken in response to issues facing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the area. The transfers are reportedly intended to protect the BJP’s support base in Jammu and Kashmir after the national Lok Sabha elections. This is according to sources in Indian media.
The amount of bureaucratic changes has caused locals to get concerned. Opponents claim that the current administration has often used official positions to sway election results.
