AMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has assigned electoral symbols to over 150 political parties that are competing for seats in the national and provincial assemblies in the 2018 general elections, according to a story published in The News on Monday.
But after the Supreme Court’s ‘bat’ emblem ruling last Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the nation’s former ruling party, was absent from the list of parties posted on the ECP website.
The list states that the following symbols have been assigned: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) as the “tiger” symbol; Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP) as the “arrow”; Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as the “sword”; Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Nazriati (PTI-N) as the “batsman”; Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) as the “eagle”; Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) as the “kite”; Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) as the “book”; Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JI) as the “scale”; Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P) as the “turban.”
