ISLAMABAD Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif has thrown his support behind National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for playing a pivotal role during a critical political situation. Asif stated that Sadiq is playing a pivotal role in the crisis arising after the arrests of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers from the Parliament House premises.
Asif stated on Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, that perhaps the supremacy of the parliament would not have been so severely undermined if only former NA speaker Asad Qaiser had similarly upheld the sanctity of the house and the democratic rights of the members.
The minister’s remarks follow the NA speaker’s actions in response to the PTI members’ September 8 arrests on lower house property.
