Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), criticized the proposed constitutional revisions on Friday, claiming that they were being brought to shield the coalition government.
At a press conference in Multan, Fazl declared, “This government is unlikely to complete its tenure.” He also stated that the constitutional package was intended to maintain the coalition government rather than bring about reforms.
He emphasized that state institutions should maintain the balance of power among themselves and operate within the bounds of the constitution.
The proposed constitutional package was pushed by the government in the midst of rumors that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, who is scheduled to retire in October of this year, would have his term extended.
