Governor Sardar Salim Haider’s rejection of the summaries pertaining to the vice chancellors of six provincial universities has increased tensions surrounding the nomination of VCs for Punjabi universities.
The Punjab administration and the governor’s office got into a standoff when the governor returned the summaries and raised complaints.
Concerns have been voiced by Governor Haider’s office regarding the summaries not being supplied in compliance with the law or established guidelines. Three names from the Chief Minister’s House should have been included in the summary in alphabetical order, according to the governor’s spokeswoman, from which the governor was to choose one candidate.
However, the Punjabi government has stated that the province’s vice chancellor selection procedure is based only on merit.
