ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the Supreme Court overturned its 2022 decision about the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution, which forbade MPs from voting in opposition to party lines during parliamentary sessions.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa led the five-member bench that heard the Supreme Court Bar Association’s (SCBA) request. The top judge stated that the full decision will be released later. The court declared a unanimous decision and granted the review petition.
The issue centers on a prior decision made by the supreme court, which said that votes cast by members of parliament who disapproved of their party’s policies and directives would be ignored and not tallied.
Barrister Ali Zafar, a representative for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), informed the court during today’s hearing that he had met the PTI founder.
