DUBAI: India won its maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday thanks to an all-around batting and bowling performance that saw them defeat Pakistan by six wickets.
Indian hitters took 18.5 overs to chase a modest 106 runs, with Shafali Verma top-scoring with 32 from 35 balls.
Sadia Iqbal caught veteran opener Smriti Mandhana (7 off 16) in the game’s fourth over, giving India a rough start to their chase.
Verma then attempted to defuse the situation with a circumspect 43-run partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues. Omaima Sohail, though, dimissed the opener, as the scoreboard showed 61 for 2 in nearly 12 overs.
