Shahrez Khan, the nephew of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, was granted post-arrest release by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Wednesday in connection with his alleged involvement in the May 9, 2023, riots.
Earlier in the day, the ATC reserved its ruling on the bail petition filed by Shahrez – son of PTI founder’s sister Aleema Khan — in the Jinnah House attack case. On August 21, he was taken into custody.
After the PTI founder was arrested in 2023 in connection with a corruption investigation, the May 9 riots spread throughout the nation. Attacks on state and military facilities were among the acts of violence, with the Jinnah House incident emerging as one of the most well-known instances.
