Citing grave human rights abuses committed while he has been detained, the international legal team defending former prime minister Imran Khan has appealed to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture.
Perseus Strategies, acting on behalf of Khan’s attorneys, filed the document, which detailed what they say was a “systematic pattern of abuse, including prolonged solitary confinement, denial of medical care, contaminated food, and restricted access to legal counsel and family visits.”
According to Khan’s legal team, these circumstances violate Pakistan’s responsibilities under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention against Torture (CAT).
