ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the recent rains and flooding have resulted in significant material and human losses and launched an assistance package for flood victims on Sunday.
The premier said in a nationally broadcast address that the destruction had been extensive and that the government was well aware of the challenges the people were facing.
“It is our responsibility to assist the flood victims,” the premier emphasized, adding that electrical distribution firms had been directed to act immediately.
Under the relief plan, one month’s electricity costs of residential clients in flood-affected districts have been waived. August bill collection has been delayed for business and industrial customers.
