LAHORE: In order to preserve law and order during the forthcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference, the Punjabi government has enforced Section 144 in Rawalpindi through October 17.
Using the authority granted by Section 144, the provincial government forbade any form of political assembly, get-together, sit-in, demonstration, pillion riding, aerial fire, pigeon flying, use of drones, or use of laser lights inside the district from October 10 to October 17.
This was done as part of Pakistan’s efforts to make sure the high-level meeting ran well. Next week, the SCO Council of Heads of Government will convene in Islamabad, where prominent international figures, including Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, will be in attendance.
