The CEOs of Discord, Twitch, Reddit, and Steam have been called by the House Oversight Committee to appear on October 8th regarding the purported involvement of their platforms in online radicalization and the inciting of politically motivated acts.
The Committee’s letters, according to TechCrunch, ask the executives to come and discuss how their services might have been exploited in relation to recent instances of political violence.
The Oversight Committee’s chairman, Representative James Comer, justified legislative action by pointing to Charlie Kirk’s murder and other politically motivated assaults. He asserted that it was the duty of Congress to investigate the platforms that had been used to incite violence.
