WASHINGTON: The Pentagon has announced new guidelines for media outlets covering the US military, including a vow to refrain from publishing anything that hasn’t been officially approved and restrictions on their movement within the Department of War.
In order to avoid losing their media credentials, reporters must sign an affidavit pledging to comply with the new standards, which were outlined in a long document sent to them on Friday.
The action is the most recent attempt by President Donald Trump’s administration to regulate media coverage of his policies, following his suggestion that unfavorable news might be “illegal.”
According to the document, the Pentagon “remains committed to transparency to promote accountability and public trust.”
