During Monday’s court sessions in Delhi, an Indian lawyer threw a shoe at Chief Justice BR Gavai after the judge allegedly made comments regarding Hinduism.
The shoe just missed Chief Justice Gavai and another justice before dropping behind them, according to Indian media sources and courtroom witnesses. The episode has been characterized as a significant act of public disrespect as well as a serious breach of courtroom security.
Security personnel quickly restrained the attorney, who was identified as Rakesh Kishore.
As he was being led out, the assailant, whose identity was withheld in the incident reports, yelled, “We will not tolerate any insult to Sanatan Dharma,” a reference to another term for Hinduism.
