The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has praised the recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, describing it as an essential move toward achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. In an official statement released on Monday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended both nations for choosing dialogue over conflict and reaching an understanding during peace negotiations held in Doha, Qatar.

“Saudi Arabia welcomes the signing by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Afghanistan of an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of mechanisms to consolidate lasting peace and stability between the two countries, during the round of negotiations held in Doha,” the statement read.

The Saudi ministry emphasized that the ceasefire marks a significant milestone in efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two South Asian neighbors. It also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting every initiative that promotes peace, regional cooperation, and prosperity for the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“The Kingdom affirms its support for all regional and international efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability, and its continued commitment to ensuring security that achieves stability and prosperity for the brotherly peoples of Pakistan and Afghanistan,” the ministry added.

Saudi Arabia further expressed gratitude to Qatar and Türkiye for their constructive diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue between Islamabad and Kabul. “The ministry also appreciates the diplomatic efforts and constructive role played by the State of Qatar and the Republic of Türkiye in this regard,” the statement said.

The ceasefire deal, reached after days of intense talks, comes following a week of violent clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border — the most severe confrontation between the two sides since the Taliban took control of Kabul in 2021. The violence disrupted trade and caused tension among border communities on both sides.

According to official sources, both countries have agreed to implement the ceasefire immediately and establish mechanisms to ensure its long-term success. The Doha negotiations aimed to ease the growing strain in bilateral relations and create a framework for continued communication and cooperation on security and border management issues.

Observers believe Saudi Arabia’s endorsement of the agreement highlights its growing diplomatic role in promoting regional peace and fostering dialogue between Muslim-majority nations. The Kingdom has consistently supported initiatives that strengthen unity and stability across the Islamic world.

The recent ceasefire has raised hopes among the people of both nations that peace and normalcy will soon return to the border areas. With support from key regional players like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye, experts believe that this agreement could pave the way for a more stable and cooperative relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the coming month.
