The former president told Fox News Digital that he is “very honored” to have Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ support in the GOP presidential primary and that he is looking forward to “working together with him to beat Joe Biden.”
Governor of Florida Ron Desantis withdraws from the 2024 presidential contest and endorses Trump
DeSantis backed Trump on Sunday and halted his 2024 presidential campaign.
“Very honored to have his endorsement,” Trump stated to Fox News Digital. “I look forward to working together with him to beat Joe Biden, who is the worst and most corrupt president in the history of our country.”
On Sunday afternoon, the governor of Florida made his decision to resign public through a video posted on X, the former name of Twitter.
A former Trump aide claims that a conviction is “absolutely” possible.
“I think it’s obvious that most Republican primary voters wish to give Donald Trump another opportunity. They saw Democrats employing lawfare to undermine him even now, and they saw his presidency thwarted by unrelenting opposition,” DeSantis stated on Sunday. “Despite our differences on issues like the coronavirus pandemic and [Dr.] Anthony Fauci’s elevation, I still think Donald Trump is better than Joe Biden, the incumbent. That much is evident.”
DeSantis stated that he is endorsing Trump “because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear that Nikki Haley represents—a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism.”
On January 15, Trump emerged victorious in the Iowa caucuses, securing his position as the front-runner. Trump is ahead of Haley in New Hampshire by a double digit margin.
Trump claims he won’t be going by DeSantis’ moniker going forward, having called him “Ron DeSanctimonious” during the campaign. “That name has officially been retired,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Digital.
