Late in the fourth quarter, Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed a game-tying kick that would have given the Kansas City Chiefs an away victory, 27-24.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Chiefs will play in the AFC Championship Game; they will take on the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens next week.
Josh Allen drove the Bills down the field to the point where it appeared he could run out the clock and win the game with a touchdown. On third-and-9, though, the Chiefs’ defense came up big, forcing an incompletion that sent Bass out to try a 44-yard field goal.
The kick was in line with the right goal post when it went up, but it turned right quickly to miss. The Chiefs ran the clock out to advance, and the home crowd of Bills supporters couldn’t believe it.
In the third installment of the postseason showdown between Allen and Patrick Mahomes, there was yet another exhibition of outstanding quarterback play—dare we even call it a classic? However, Allen is now 0-3 against Mahomes in the playoffs and didn’t want this to be a legendary game in which he came out on top.
Both teams had field goal drives to start the game, but Buffalo’s run game was established by Allen and James Cook in their subsequent possession. Finally, it came down to Kansas City’s 5-yard line and second-and-3.
RIGHT OUT OF THE GYM: JOSH ALLEN MAKES AMAZING, BUT PLUGID, PLAY AGAINST CHIEFS IMMEDIATELY, HELPING BILLS SCORE FIRST.
After the Chiefs responded with a field goal, Mahomes had an opportunity to take the game’s first lead on the road after the Bills punted.
