KARACHI: According to Geo News, Punjab’s interim chief minister, Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to be considered for the prestigious position of chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
According to a news channel report on Monday, the nomination will become official upon the approval of PCB Patron-in-Chief and acting prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
Following the appointment by the PM, Naqvi would take Zaka Ashraf’s seat as the former head of the PCB Management Committee on the Board of Governors.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore shortly after the news broke, Naqvi, the proprietor of a media channel and acting chief minister for a year, also reaffirmed his appointment.
“I’ll work to resolve the problems hurting cricket in Pakistan. Cricket reforms are desperately needed right now.
Ashraf left his position as PCB Management Committee chairman last Friday. The 72-year-old declared his resignation in front of the committee.
On July 6, Ashraf was elected to the PCB Board of Governors and took over as Chairman, succeeding Najam Sethi in that capacity.
He said, according to those in attendance at a continuing committee meeting, “I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way.”
“Whoever Prime Minister [Kakar] nominates [will take my place], that is now up to him,” he continued.
Pakistan participated in two important tournaments under Ashraf’s leadership: the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.
