Tina Knowles recently shared a throwback video from Beyoncé’s 2011 ITV concert special, A Night with Beyoncé, revealing the singer’s struggles while performing during her pregnancy with Blue Ivy.
“This just came across my feed,” Tina, 72, wrote on Instagram on January 6. “It took me down memory lane. This is one of the hardest shows we’ve ever done. Beyoncé was about two months pregnant with Blue and feeling extremely nauseated.”
She described how Beyoncé would leave the stage between songs to manage her sickness but always returned to deliver a flawless performance. . That’s when I realized how strong and resilient she is as a performer.”
Tina also reflected on the false rumors that Beyoncé had faked her pregnancy because of how her outfit looked on TV. “It was hard because I couldn’t say anything,” Tina told People in April. “People were making hurtful claims, and my family and babies are so sacred. Hearing such false and mean statements was painful.”
Beyoncé had faced miscarriages before Blue Ivy, which made her daughter’s birth even more meaningful. Tina described Blue as “the greatest blessing to come to our family after a very difficult time” in her memoir Matriarch. Beyoncé has spoken about how those experiences strengthened her as a parent. “Having miscarriages taught me that I had to mother myself before I could be a mother to someone else,” she said in a 2020 interview with ELLE U.K. “Then I had Blue, and my purpose became even clearer.”
