SARGODHA: According to police, at least 25 persons were taken into custody in Punjab’s Sargodha district on Saturday following the alleged sacrilege incident, which resulted in an enraged mob torturing a member of the Christian community.
News reports that the incident descended into violence as angry neighbors broke into the man’s home in the Mujahid Colony neighborhood, destroying his possessions and setting a shoe factory on fire. In addition, they destroyed nearby electrical installations and set fire to tires.
Following the receipt of the information, a large police presence encircled the area, rescuing the accused and his family and moving them to an undisclosed location.
Asad Aijaz, a District Police Officer (DPO), and Sharik Kamal Siddiqui, a Regional Police Officer (RPO), were also on hand to maintain situational control.
