The second-most senior member of the Supreme Court, Justice Munib Akhtar, took the oath of office as acting chief justice of Pakistan on Saturday.
In a formal and uncomplicated ceremony, Justice Yahya Afridi of the supreme court of Islamabad delivered the oath to Justice Akhtar.
A statement states that in the absence of senior puisne judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and top judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Akhtar will carry out his responsibilities as the acting CJP. At this time, CJP Isa is not in the nation.
Attendees at the occasion included Supreme Court Bar Association members, Pakistan Bar Council delegates, and judges of the highest court.
The oath-taking ceremony was held by SC Registrar Jazeela Aslam.
