The Hilal-e-Imtiaz has been given to Arshad Nadeem, the renowned javelin thrower who created history by winning Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in the sport in Paris.
President Asif Ali Zardari awarded the honor on Wednesday during a special ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Nadeem gave the country a level of pride never seen before as he broke the world record with a javelin throw of 92.97 meters.
His accomplishment was Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in forty years in addition to securing the nation’s first individual gold medal.
Presenting the prize, President Zardari commended Nadeem for his outstanding commitment to sports and noted how his success has elevated Pakistan’s standing internationally.
