Thai Police Arrest Australian Suspect at Bangkok Airport
Thai authorities have charged an Australian man with murder after they discovered the body of a 17-year-old girl inside a suitcase near a railway track in Pattaya, Thailand.
Police identified the victim as Tunchanok Donhomla, a teenager from Thailand’s Kalasin province. Officers found her body during the early hours of Saturday after receiving a missing person report just hours earlier.
Authorities arrested 55-year-old Australian national Simon Peter Carman at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Investigators believe he was preparing to leave the country when police detained him.
CCTV Footage Led Investigators to the Suspect
According to Thai police, security camera footage showed Carman entering a condominium with Tunchanok at around 3:34 a.m. on Thursday.
Later that night, cameras reportedly captured him leaving the building alone while carrying a large suitcase. Investigators say he then loaded the suitcase onto a motorcycle and drove toward a railway area in Pattaya.
Police questioned Carman at the airport and arrested him at around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday. About 15 minutes later, officers discovered the teenager’s body inside the abandoned suitcase.
Suspect Denies Murder Charges
Carman has denied the murder accusation along with charges related to hiding a body and taking a minor for sexual purposes.
During questioning, he claimed that he acted in self-defense. Reports also state that he told investigators he had agreed to pay the teenager 1,000 Thai baht for sexual services. However, an argument allegedly started when he offered only half of that amount.
The suspect further claimed that the teenager had disappeared from his room while he was asleep.
Message to the Victim’s Family
While in police custody, Carman recorded a message for the victim’s family.
“I feel bad for what happened to your daughter. It was out of my control,” he said.
He also expressed sympathy for the family and urged other young women to be careful.
Investigation Continues
The tragic case has shocked both Thailand and Australia. Investigators continue gathering evidence as they prepare legal proceedings against the suspect.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the motive behind the teenager’s death. The case remains under active investigation.
