According to a local publication, Pakistan’s renowned pacer Shaheen Afridi may lose his captaincy of the national squad ahead of the T20 World Cup, which begins in June this year.
According to the publication, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been informed of a change in the Green Shirts’ captaincy following the Shaheen-led Lahore Qalandars’ poor performance in the ongoing ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League.
“Some say Shaheen, 23, is too young for this role and needs to mature. On the other hand, some board members believe that changing leadership so soon to the World Cup would be a bad idea since it could hurt the team’s performance,” according to the newspaper.
“The final decision will be made by the chairman,” he said.
If Shaheen is removed, Mohammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper hitter, is expected to take his place. However, former captain Babar Azam is also a contender for the vital post.
