ISLAMABAD: According to the news, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are scheduled to meet today to discuss the PPP’s concerns about the planned budget for the fiscal year 2025.
This development coincides with today’s anticipated resume of the National Assembly’s budget session following a seven-day recess for Eid.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz coalition government in the Center has come under fire from the PPP for acting “solo flight” and failing to show confidence over the budget.
The party led by Bilawal had even declared that it would boycott the budget session last week, but it later changed its mind when Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met with the PPP’s top officials many times to persuade them to change their minds.
The PPP’s backing is crucial for the ruling party because the coalition government led by PM Shehbaz lacks the luxury of a parliamentary majority to facilitate the smooth passage of the budget.
The News was informed by sources that a PPP delegation headed by Bilawal is scheduled to meet with the premier. During the meeting, the delegation would express their concerns on the political climate in Punjab and the unreleased financial share for Sindh.
The meeting has been confirmed by PPP Secretary of Information Shazia Marri, who added, “Bilawal will bring up the legitimate PPP concerns with PM Shehbaz. The government reached out for the meeting.”
The News revealed last week that the premier had chosen to increase the size of the federal cabinet and extend an official invitation to the PPP to join the administration.
