DIAMER: A passenger bus drove off a narrow mountain road and fell into a ravine in a remote part of Gilgit Baltistan’s Diamer district, resulting in at least 20 fatalities and 21 injuries, according to authorities, who spoke with Geo News on Friday.
According to authorities, the incident happened early on Friday morning at around 5:30 am near the Yashokhal section on the Karakoram Highway in Diamer.
The bus was traveling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi. At least 38 passengers, according to the police, were on board.
Rescue crews were sent to the scene as soon as the accident was reported. The deceased and injured have been sent to a hospital in Chilas.
The director of the health department reported that three of the deceased were women.
