Businesspeople in Pakistan have gone on a statewide shutter-down strike to express their disapproval with the FBR’s fixed tax policy, rising sales and advance taxes, and soaring electricity rates.
Businesses have ceased operations as a result of the walkout, which is being observed in a number of locations. The traders are demanding urgent relief from the government’s tax policies and rising power bills.
Major shopping destinations in Lahore, such as the Shah Alam Market, Azam Market, and Urdu Bazaar, remained closed as merchants objected to the sales tax being imposed on stationery and other items. The walkout also affected Akbari Mandi, when business owners closed to protest the current tax system.
All across these markets, protest flags were flown, expressing the vendors’ discontent with the way the government is now operating.
