ISLAMABAD: Khawaja Asif, the defense minister, has expressed optimism that the project to build a gas pipeline between Iran and Pakistan will be finished and that the roadblocks will be removed.
Speaking with Geo News, the minister insisted that in order to safeguard their interests amid the turmoil and unrest that the region’s countries are experiencing as well as the growing interference of major powers like the European Union and the United States through proxies—especially with regard to Israel—regional stakeholders needed to unite on a common platform.
Regarding this, Asif described Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s “successful visit” as a “great development”.The minister’s remarks are noteworthy because, in the wake of President Raisi’s pivotal visit, the United States has hinted at the “possible risk of sanctions” on several occasions this week in relation to business deals between Iran and Pakistan, particularly the completion of the gas pipeline project.
