The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) worker was killed in a violent altercation during the by-elections in Narowal, Punjab, on Sunday. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has received complaints about the purported kidnapping of poll workers.
Violence between employees of various political parties in various parts of Punjab disrupted today’s by-elections for 21 national and provincial assembly seats.
In several parts of Punjab and Balochistan, cellular and internet connections were also suspended in order to preserve law and order throughout the election process.
A fight between Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) employees and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Narowal’s PP-54 resulted in the death of a PML-N activist.
According to the authorities, the ruling party employee who passed away was identified as Muhammad Yousuf. He was struck in the head by one of his opponents during the altercation with a stick.
The polling in this constituency was halted, according to the police, who also stated that the worker was transferred to the hospital before passing away from his wounds.
Hamza Shehbaz, the vice president of the PML-N, expressed regret over the death of a party worker in Narowal.
Without mentioning the PTI by name, Hamza expressed his condolences for the activist’s passing and denounced the political party for its hooliganism, which he said killed an innocent guy during today’s by-elections.
