Veterinary experts claim that dogs are just like humans in that they too have to lose excess weight.
In the United States, the prevalence of pet obesity has increased over the previous 20 years; in 2022, 59% of dogs were considered overweight or obese, according to a report from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention.
According to the research, obesity can reduce a dog’s life expectancy, cause discomfort, and raise the risk of conditions like diabetes, skin issues, respiratory issues, kidney failure, osteoarthritis, and cancer.

It’s crucial to consult your veterinarian first if your dog is gaining weight, according to Dr. Jeffrey Krasnoff, a veterinarian at Brookville Animal Hospital in Long Island, New York, who spoke with Fox News Digital.
“Overweight dogs should be checked for underlying medical conditions, such as hypothyroidism and Cushing disease (an excess of the hormone cortisol),” Krasnoff stated.

Maintaining her dogs’ health and fitness is a top priority for Linda Fiordiliso, an American Kennel Club (AKC) judge who also owns a dog grooming business in West Islip, New York, and shows bulldogs in national competitions.
The dog has to appear well-groomed. She remarked, “I don’t need an Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I do need a dog that looks healthy,” adding that this calls for keeping an eye on the pet’s nutrition and exercise regimen.
The AKC judge told Fox News Digital that it’s crucial for dogs to maintain a healthy weight even if they aren’t competing.
