Following PM-CJP meeting, commission to look into spy agencies’ influence in the legal system

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday decided to form a commission to look into claims made by judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the nation’s spy agencies that they were meddling in court cases. This decision followed a high-level meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.

The premier-CJP meeting follows a letter from six judges of the Indian High Court (IHC) to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) requesting the convening of a judicial convention regarding the alleged meddling in judicial affairs by members of the executive branch, including intelligence agency agents. The judges are Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz.”PM Shehbaz gave CJP Isa the assurance that the independence of the judiciary will not be compromised,” Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated at a press conference following today’s important meeting.
