On Saturday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) decided to go forward by clearing the air on their “misunderstandings.”
A JI spokeswoman claimed in a statement that the event occurred during a phone call between PTI’s Asad Qaiser and JI leader Liaquat Baloch.
Qaiser stated, “[We] want to move forward by removing the misunderstandings,” after speaking with Baloch over the phone.
After PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said that the party had approached the JI after the general elections on February 8 but had backed off from initiating negotiations with the PTI due to “pressure,” tensions between the two former partners grew even worse.
Following the polls, the independent candidates with the PTI’s support emerged victorious and sought to become allies in the fight for reserved seats.
But the PTI’s offer to establish a coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was rejected by the JI.
Gohar, however, asserted that the party’s leadership was avoiding meetings with him and that the JI was “under pressure” not to speak with PTI about the aforementioned problem.
The PTI leader made these remarks during his appearance on the Geo News program “Capital Talk,” claiming that he, Liaquat Baloch, and other leaders of both parties had planned to meet, and that the JI leaders had not shown up.
On March 29, nevertheless, Baloch stated in a JI-released video, “There was no pressure on us and JI doesn’t take decisions under pressure.”
