FBR slaps 2% additional duty customs on items subject to 0% duty

ISLAMABAD: As of July 1, The News said, the government has increased or imposed regulatory duties on the import of 657 luxury items and has notified customs of extra duties on the import of 2,200 items.

On goods with 0% duty, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) imposed 2% ADC. It would be imposed on imports of goods at the rates of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 7%.

On the import of hundreds of articles, a regulatory charge ranging from 5 to 55% has been levied. Imports of automobiles, jeeps, light commercial vehicles that are fully knocked down (CKD) and have a displacement of more than 1,000 cc, and heavy commercial CKD vehicles are subject to a 7% tariff.

In place of its notification No. SRO 966(l)12022, the FBR has issued SRO.928(I)/2024 to impose regulatory duties on the import of certain commodities.

20% regulatory duty would apply to imports of perfumes and sprays; 30% to imports of watches; 30% to imports of sunglasses; 10% to imports of cycles; 25% to imports of dairy products; 30% to imports of natural honey; 25% to imports of dates and other fruit; 55% to imports of cosmetics; 50% to imports of shaving cream and soap; 10% to 10% of imports of men’s and women’s overcoats, jackets, skirts, and shirts; and 45% to imports of jewelry.

Additionally, there would be regulatory duties of 50% for oral or dental hygiene, 25% for cheese and curd, 50% for potatoes, other vegetables, and vegetable mixtures, 40% for sugar confectionery (including white chocolate), 50% for tobacco, 50% for partially or completely stemmed or stripped tobacco, 50% for dog or cat food, and 50% for leather.

The following imports are exempt from regulatory duties: imports under Notification No. SRO 678; imports under Chapter 99 of the First Schedule of the Customs Act; imports under the Temporary Importation Scheme, as defined by Notification No. S.R.O. 492(l)12009; imports under the Fifth Schedule to the Customs Act, 1969; imports of rubber aprons and cots; imports of vehicles (CBU) by new entrants; imports of input materials used by local vendors for the manufacturing of auto parts under Notification No. SRO 655(l)/2006.
