Jeffries Targets House Majority
Hakeem Jeffries stated that House Democrats are aiming to reclaim the majority in November.
The New York Democrat made the remarks on a conference call with reporters on Sunday.
He stated that Democrats are targeting Republican districts in conservative areas. Many of these districts supported Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Jeffries cited the 2018 midterms as a model for the present campaign. Democrats took control of the House that year after making significant gains in areas that Trump had won two years before.
“House Democrats are poised to take back the majority,” Jeffries stated.
Democrats Expand Their Target Map
Democrats are include additional Republican-held seats on their campaign map.
The Democratic Congressional campaign just added eight districts. New objectives include seats in Kansas, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Washington state.
Jeffries also stated that Republican redistricting attempts had not resulted in the projected wins.
He highlighted trends in places such as Texas and Florida. According to Jeffries, certain efforts to build safer Republican districts have actually resulted in new electoral obstacles.
Republicans Fight to Protect the House
House Speaker Mike Johnson is also campaigning around the country.
Johnson has visited various states to assist Republican candidates. In the last weeks before the election, he plans to visit more than 40 districts in around 20 states.
Republicans presently have a slim House majority. This emphasizes the importance of a small number of competitive races.
Jeffries has also been visiting other sections of the country. He spent the weekend campaigning in the western states.
Trump Remains Central to the Republican Campaign
Trump continues to play an important role in the Republican campaign.
Republicans are under pressure to address high gas costs connected to the war with Iran. At the same time, the party is attempting to retain support among Trump’s core backers.
Trump has also floated financial measures aimed at voters.
He has guaranteed $5,000 cash dividends if the Republicans win. However, Congress would still have to approve the funding.
Trump also promised $90 handouts to elderly to help with their Medicare costs.
House Race Remains Highly Competitive
The 2026 House race remains highly competitive.
Democrats are trying to expand the number of Republican districts they can contest. Republicans, meanwhile, are defending their narrow majority.
Jeffries believes the political environment could produce results similar to 2018.
However, the final outcome will depend on voter turnout and the results of individual House races.
Voters will decide which party controls the House when the midterm elections take place on Nov. 3.
Hakeem Jeffries says Democrats have a clear path to reclaiming the House majority in the 2026 midterms.
His strategy focuses on Republican districts, including areas that strongly supported Trump. Republicans are fighting to protect their narrow advantage.
With only a small number of seats likely to determine control, both parties are preparing for a closely watched final stretch.
