The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was given permission to host a public meeting in the federal capital of Islamabad on Wednesday by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
As Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC heard a petition from PTI to stage a public rally in Islamabad against alleged election result manipulation and rigging in the polls on February 8, he declared that “one’s right of assembly cannot be taken away.”
The judge’s comments follow the district administration’s denial of PTI’s request for the power show on March 30, which was submitted by party leader Aamir Mughal, on the grounds of “law and order” concerns.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, stated that the PTI leadership’s application had been rejected due to grave security concerns, according to The News.Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akbar Nasir of Islamabad had already issued a warning to the PTI, stating that they would be subject to severe consequences if they continued to hold demonstrations without obtaining official authorization from the relevant authorities.
