LONDON: Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), has not yet submitted an application to run for Oxford University chancellor, but according to his advisor Zulfi Bukhari, Khan has given his approval to the campaign strategy.
The PTI founder has confirmed that he will run for the nominal position of chancellor at Oxford University, according to Sayed Zulfi Bukhari, Imran Khan’s advisor on international affairs, who spoke to Geo News. However, there are a number of obstacles, including the fact that he is currently serving a jail sentence in Adiala Jail, which makes him inaccessible.
Although Khan has not yet applied, a spokeswoman for the Vice-Chancellor’s office at the University of Oxford stated that multiple other applicants had submitted their applications.”Candidates for the election of the Chancellor will be made public in early October,” the office stated in a statement.
If Khan prevails, it will usher in a new era in Oxford history. Just last month, Israr Kakar, an Oxford University student from Balochistan, became the first person from Balochistan and the third Pakistani in history to win the Oxford Union Presidency. The University announced that August 18 is the deadline for applications.
