ISLAMABAD: Shoaib Shaheen, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) affiliated independent candidate and lawyer, filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday, disputing the NA-47 Islamabad-II seat election results.
Shaheen was beaten by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who won the constituency with 102,502 votes in the 2024 general elections conducted on February 8.
Meanwhile, Shaheen remained the runner-up, receiving 86,396 votes. The independent candidate challenged the results provided by the returning officer (RO) in court.
Speaking to media in court, the lawyer stated that he and Ali Bukhari had filed a petition. He stated that they had asked the registrar’s office to schedule a hearing today.
“We seek that the [IHC’s] chief justice hear the case immediately. “The whole of Islamabad is aware that NA-47 is my constituency,” Shaheen remarked, adding that they also have Form 45.
“The ROs [returning officers] are being pressured,” he went on to say.
A day earlier, Salman Akram Raja, the PTI’s candidate from NA-128 Lahore and a senior lawyer, filed a lawsuit challenging the election results in his seat.
