At Arlington, Texas’ AT&T Stadium, the United States men’s national soccer team defeated Bolivia 2-0 on Sunday night, handily defeating them in their Copa América opener.
Over the course of the 90 minutes on the field, Team USA dominated Bolivia with goals from Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun.
In this Copa América, the United States wanted to make a statement, and the goal was to get out to an early lead against Bolivia, a side they were predicted to defeat on Sunday night.
After the Stars and Stripes were handed a corner kick with just over two minutes remaining in the game, it was Pulisic, the veteran of the USMNT, who made it happen.
Timothy Weah began to move toward the net as Pulisic made a quick pass to him rather than crossing the ball into the box. It couldn’t have come at a better time, as he dropped it to Pulisic on his right, who chose to take his first shot of the competition at the net.
Watching as the ball soared past Bolivia’s goalkeeper and into the right side of the net, Pulisic, attempting to bend it from right to left, achieved the ideal height on it.
Pulisic and his colleagues celebrated his 30th career international goal in front of a boisterous crowd that included many Americans.
