According to unofficial and unverified results from 250 polling places out of a total of 275, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Syed Ali Qasim Gillani led the field in Multan’s NA-148 by-election with 78,270 votes, followed by Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Taimur Altaf Malik with 47,793 votes.
Voting was open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. without breaks. The district administration of Multan and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared that all the necessary preparations for a free and fair election had been made.
In the election, 275 polling places were set up, and a maximum of 444,231 people may exercise their right to vote.
A representative for ECP Punjab stated that walk-through gates and surveillance cameras had been installed at polling places, along with failsafe security measures.
There are eight contenders for the position, including Ali Qasim Gillani of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Barrister Taimur Altaf Malik of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), who is supported by the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI).
With the election of Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani as a senator, the National Assembly seat became vacant. In the general elections of 2024, Gillani defeated Malik in a close race for the seat.
