India's economy under pressure from oil shock India's once stable, balanced economy is under new stress due to the rising tensions and disruptions on global oil markets. This situation affects key areas such as currency strength, economic growth, and inflation. Rupee Weakens Sharply In the last year, the rupee of India has fallen to new lows. It has lost almost 10% in value against the US Dollar. The decline in the rupee is a reflection of investor worries and global uncertainties. The Reserve Bank of India intervened to stop the decline, but the help may not be sustained if tensions continue. Forecasts indicate that the rupee may weaken even further as tensions increase, adding pressure to the economy. The cost of living is rising and inflation pressures are increasing Imports become more costly when the currency is weaker. Fuel, food and other raw materials will be more expensive. Inflation is expected to rise, which will affect households and business. By reducing taxes on fuel and changing export policies, the government has attempted to reduce prices. Despite this, the price of food is already rising, and disruptions in supply may increase pressures over the next few months. The Growth Prospects Slow Down If the conflict persists, India's growth could be slower than previously anticipated. According to experts, the growth could fall by 1% because of higher costs and disruptions in supply chains. The slowdown will also delay India's aim of becoming the fourth largest economy in the world. Imports of oil, gas, and other products will be affected India is heavily dependent on Middle East energy and raw material. About 60% of India's natural gas, and the majority of its liquefied petrol gas comes from this region. The region also imports large amounts of crude oil. A disruption to these supplies poses risks to industries, agriculture and everyday life. Imports of fertiliser are also disrupted, impacting farming at key planting times. Impact on Businesses and Jobs Already, supply shortages have affected sectors such as hospitality, food processing and manufacturing. Several businesses have temporarily reduced their operations, or shut down. Early signs suggest that there are shortages of fuel and gasoline in major cities. It could result in a shortage of workers and increased wages. This would put more pressure on businesses. The Government's Response to Challenges Government has announced financial assistance measures including stabilization funds and subsidies on food and fertilizer. Experts believe that these measures may not be sufficient to offset the full impact of the crisis. Reductions in government expenditures, including infrastructure spending, limit long-term opportunities for growth.

Previous Article Strait of Hormuz Tensions Rise as Asian Nations Strike Deals with Iran US Deadline and Rising Tensions US President Donald Trump warned of strong action if Iran did not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by a set deadline. He threatened severe consequences if no agreement was reached. The statement added pressure on an already tense situation. Global Importance of the Strait The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical shipping routes in the world. Nearly one fifth of global energy shipments pass through it. Any disruption quickly impacts oil prices and global supply chains. Recent tensions in the region have already pushed prices higher. Asian Countries Secure Agreements Several Asian countries moved quickly to secure agreements with Iran. These deals aim to protect their energy supplies and ensure safe passage for their ships. Countries like Pakistan, India, and the Philippines have all engaged in discussions with Tehran. The Philippines recently confirmed an agreement with Iran. Officials stated that ships flying the Philippine flag will have safe and smooth passage. The country depends heavily on Middle Eastern oil and felt the impact of rising prices after the disruption. Pakistan also reached an understanding with Iran. The agreement allows a number of Pakistani vessels to pass through the strait. Officials described the move as a positive step toward stability and dialogue. India has also been mentioned in discussions, with Iran expressing support for Indian ships using the route. These agreements highlight growing cooperation between Iran and energy dependent nations. Iran’s Position and Strategy Iran has indicated that it may allow access to ships from certain countries. However, it remains unclear whether this applies to all vessels or only selected ones. Analysts believe Iran is separating political alliances from active involvement in conflict. Experts also note that Iran appears willing to negotiate on a case by case basis. This approach allows flexibility while maintaining its strategic position in the region. Impact on Global Energy Markets The situation has already affected global oil prices. Any instability in the Strait of Hormuz raises concerns for energy dependent economies. Countries are now seeking direct communication with Iran to secure their supply lines. Energy experts suggest that diplomacy remains the most effective way forward. Open dialogue and agreements can help reduce risks and prevent further disruptions. Strait of Hormuz Tensions Rise as Asian Nations Strike Deals with Iran
Next Article Indian police officers sentenced to death for deaths in custody Case Background In India, nine police officers have been found guilty for the murder of a father in prison and his son during the lockdown 2020 Covid. This case occurred in Tamil Nadu where victims were arrested after allegedly maintaining their mobile store open during the restrictions. P Jeyaraj, and Benicks his son, both died soon after they were arrested. They were beaten brutally inside the jail, according to court testimony. The Brutality of Custody According to the sentencing judge, both officers were stripped naked and assaulted in public by police officers. The judge determined that both men were assaulted and stripped in front of each other. The officer also said that they had abused their power and shown no respect for life. Court's Verdict Last month the court found them guilty, and the judge handed out the death sentence on Monday. The judge rejected all requests for leniency, and stated that the defendants should not be given a reduced sentence based on age or background. All the police officers had been educated, and were fully accountable for their actions. In 2020, one of the accused officers died due to Covid. The remaining nine have been sentenced. They can appeal. Public Reactions and Protests Tamil Nadu was enraged by the case. Public figures and opposition leaders raised their voices in support of justice. Social media was flooded with messages of support from prominent personalities including politicians and an Indian cricketer. Wider Concerns about Police Brutality The case brought to light the brutality of police in India. Human rights organizations report that hundreds die each year in police custody. The fact that they also mention the use of torture to obtain confessions raises serious questions about police practices. In early this year, experts from the United Nations urged India's police system to be aligned with international standards for human rights.
