Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Jahangir Tareen noted on Sunday that he looks forward to working with his “leader,” Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, as electioneering picks up speed with political parties forming alliances in an effort to solidify their positions ahead of the polls on February 8 (Geo News reported).
At a political rally in Multan, where he is running for office on the NA-155 seat, Tareen declared, “I will work with Nawaz Sharif as he will be our leader once the government is formed [after the polls].”
Former close aide to former Prime Minister Imran Khan Tareen, who was instrumental in the building of the PTI administration in 2018, broke away from Khan following the filing of a money laundering charge against him.
Many now-former PTI figures, like as Farrukh Habib, Ali Nawaz Awan, Andleeb Abbas, Firdous Ashiq Awan, Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, and Murad Raas, have joined Tareen’s ranks since the party’s founding.
Strangely, since its formation, the Tareen-led IPP has held discussions over seat adjustment prospects in the next general elections with the PML-N, a party that is fiercely opposed to Tareen’s previous party, PTI.
The previous ruling party has opted not to run in five National Assembly and eleven Punjab Assembly constituencies due to its agreement with the IPP, despite some back and forth between them citing reluctance in some PML-N components regarding seat allocation.
Expanding on his platform should his party be elected, Tareen reiterated that raising wages for those in employment and enhancing economic metrics will be top priorities in addressing unemployment.
Referring to the IPP and PML-N’s electoral symbols, respectively, “whether it be ‘eagle’ or ‘lion,’ we have to work together for the betterment of the country’s economy,” the IPP patron-in-chief stated.
A stable economy would benefit everyone, he continued.
If the party wins on February 8, “the country will develop [and prosper] under Nawaz’s leadership [and] hundreds of thousands of jobs will be created,” he continued.
Tareen’s comments aligned with the platform of other prominent political parties competing in the election, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the PML-N, who have been aggressively promoting their “economic agenda” in an attempt to win over the electorate that has been worst hit by exorbitant inflation.
