LAHORE: According to The News on Sunday, a six-person Joint Inquiry Team (JIT) made up of police, military, and local government authorities has been formed to look into the Bahawalnagar incident, in which a confrontation between some police officers and military troops occurred.
The team has been assembled by the Punjab Home Department, which has designated Special Secretary Interior Atta-ur-Rehman as its chairperson. The commissioner of the Bahawalpur Division, the DIG of the Punjab Police Special Branch, and representatives from the Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence, and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) are also part of the JIT.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Friday that the Pakistan Army and the Punjab Police had decided to work together to investigate the incident after brief video footage of scores of masked men dressed in military fatigues beating police officers in Bahawalnagar went viral on social media.
An unpleasant occurrence happened recently in Bahawalnagar, according to a statement from the military’s media wing. It was swiftly handled and resolved by the military and police officials working together.
The statement said, “Despite this, certain factions with vested interests began fanning vitriolic propaganda on social media to create divisions between state institutions and government departments.”
Many social media users expressed disapproval when a series of videos went viral and appeared to show guys in army uniforms assaulting police officers in Bahawalnagar.
