This week, post offices and banks in the UK will be distributing nearly three million, or 2.975 million, of the new designs into people’s pockets and tills.
In honor of the King’s love of the natural environment and conservation, the “tails” side of the coins features two British bees, while the “heads” side features the official coin image of the monarch.
It comes after banknotes featuring the King’s image were released in June.
Alongside the new coins, there will always be coins featuring Queen Elizabeth II. These will be swapped out when they get worn out or damaged over time.
To further demonstrate the King’s dedication to the environment, seven further coins, ranging in value from the 1p to the £2, have also been influenced by nature.
The 1p depicting a hazel dormouse, the 2p red squirrel, the 5p oak tree leaf, the 10p capercaillie grouse, the 20p puffin, and the £2 featuring the national flowers—rose, daffodil, thistle, and shamrock—will be released in response to demand.
