As the country votes to elect its MPs on February 8, we are witnessing some huge upsets and victories, with more to come despite the passing of nearly 24 hours.

Despite the suspension of mobile phone and internet services, a substantial number of people around the country exercised their right to vote, electing delegates for national and provincial legislatures from 855 constituencies in the world’s fifth-largest democracy.

The 2024 elections surpassed the previous ones in 2018 in a variety of ways, including a record budget allocation of Rs48 billion, a significant increase in the number of voters exceeding 50% of the total population, an unprecedented ratio of independent candidates, a total of nearly 18,000 candidates, In addition, 260 million votes take a significant amount of paper to produce.

As voters cast their ballots, the prime ministerial candidates of two major parties, Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, emerged victors. However, findings are still trickling in, and it is unclear when the entire set will be collected.
