Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq, two former cricket players, were officially removed from the selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday in response to the team’s terrible performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
“The PCB today confirmed that it has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup,” according to a press release issued by the board.
The news comes a day after sources told Geo News that the ex-cricketers were kicked off the selection committee by the board because they had supported players who didn’t make it through the mega-event, causing the board to lose faith in them.
..
The former cricket players were fired shortly after the PCB restructured the men’s national selection committee earlier this year with equal powers to increase transparency. However, the team that the committee chose has underperformed in every series since it was formed.
Razzaq served on the selection committees for both the men’s and women’s teams, while Riaz was a member of the men’s team.
But because of the men’s team’s subpar play and early elimination from the T20 World Cup, as well as the women’s team’s consecutive defeats in bilateral series against the West Indies and England,.
