Newly elected Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took the oath of office on Monday, shortly after becoming the province’s first female chief executive.
Over 1,000 people, including diplomats, celebrities, political figures, journalists, and Sharif family members Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, among others, attended the swearing-in ceremony at the Punjab Governor House.
Governor Baligh Ur Rehman gave the oath to the newly elected chief minister shortly after her election as provincial chief executive, despite a boycott by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) members.
Maryam has become Pakistan’s first female chief minister, winning the elections with 220 votes in the province parliament.
