ISLAMABAD Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai requested on Tuesday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raise education spending to 4% of the GDP of the country.
Malala Fund wrote a letter to the premier expressing her desire for Pakistan to increase its education spending from less than 2% of GDP to over 4%.
She acknowledged that girls’ education has come a long way in the last ten years and stated that Pakistan’s government ought to give girls’ education more priority. She claimed that Pakistan had received $15 million from the Malala Foundation to support education in the nation.
“Thanks to our STEAM relationship with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, we have been able to personally engage with approximately 500,000 girls in over 4,500 high schools. Additionally, we back professionals in education and civil society in their endeavors to enhance instruction methods, digital learning, and the leadership development of girls,” the statement read.
She continued by saying that the incoming government’s first 100 days of priorities should prioritize educating girls more.
“I look forward to collaborating with your government to make girls’ education a priority as you craft your first 100-day plan. I promise that in order to achieve our common objectives as development partners, your federal and provincial governments, as well as my staff in Pakistan and our grantees, are working hard.
