According to court documents, a court dropped criminal charges against Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges in his domestic abuse case on Tuesday due to “insufficient evidence”.
On October 6, 2023, Bridges was charged with violating a domestic violence protection order, misdemeanor child abuse, and property damage, according to the New York Post.
The state stated in a Charlotte Mecklenburg County Court statement that prosecutors would “not be successful at trial.”
According to authorities, the woman who accused the NBA player told conflicting tales about what happened.
“Given the lack of sufficient evidence necessary to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial,” the court documents signed by prosecutor Samantha Pendergrass stated.
Superior Court filings show that when officers arrived to a complaint, they discovered a lady and her children in a vehicle with a shattered windshield.
The woman initially blamed another woman for the damage, but a few days later she stated it was caused by Bridges.
Later, she admitted to being unsure about the cause of the car’s damage.
Bridges was set to appear in court on February 20 to answer the allegations.
Bridges missed the 2022-23 NBA season due to a domestic violence complaint filed in June 2022, alleging that he beat his children’s mother in front of them in Los Angeles.
In November, he pled no guilty to one felony count of harming a child’s parent and agreed to three years of probation.
The 25-year-old forward was also had to undergo 52 weeks of parenting education, 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, and 100 hours of community service as part of the agreement.
Bridges missed the first ten games of the season due to a league-imposed suspension.
Bridges, who will be an unrestricted free agency after the season, averages 20.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Hornets this season.
